Question 12: Can hydrogen fuel cell vehicles be parked in garages?
Answer: In general, we classify hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as vehicles running on gaseous fuels. Parking spaces in the garage are divided into open and closed spaces.
The conditions required for parking vehicles running on gaseous fuels in garages are set out in Regulation No. 23/2008 Coll. on the technical conditions for fire protection of buildings, as well as in the technical standards ČSN 73 6058 and ČSN 73 0804. If the vehicle is designed to operate exclusively on natural gas, then the technical regulation TPG 976 is also applied.
The essence of garage safety for vehicles running on gaseous fuels is a properly designed and properly functioning gas detection system, clearly defined zones for gas vehicles, working emergency ventilation and fire alarms.
The emergency ventilation system must be equipped with an independent emergency power source with a capacity of at least 1 hour of ventilation system operation. Gas detection systems must also be connected to an emergency power supply.
In case all safety rules are followed, nothing prevents the operation of garages for vehicles on a hydrogen fuel cell.
